Hi my real name is Georgia,
I'm twelve years old and am very intelligent for my age. I am very intrested in witchcraft and wondered if I'm compatible. I created my very first wand today and so far everythings gone well.
Although some say most people can be a witch, others say you have to be born with the gift, which is true?
I can also vagueley predict future things and always have the ability to see people's true colours, from the moement I meet them.
Any tips.......... |

Firstly, I'm not too sure if you'll be able to get much information on here about Wicca, as this is a forum on Traditional Witchcraft. Wicca is a relatively recent religious movement as a result of Gerald Gardener's creation from different aspects of Witchcraft and his view of deity being Dualistic (The God and Goddess). There are many debates on whether one can be Wiccan if they are not initiated by a Coven member or not... I'm not Wiccan so I can't really comment accurately, though there seem to be many non-initiated Wiccans out there.
I personally believe anyone can practice magic, or witchcraft successfully, it's a craft that can be developed with education and practice. While I think that a family of witches can be quite powerful, I believe it is because they are usually taught and practicing a lot longer than someone who finds Witchcraft on their own.
The only advise I can offer is to read lots, but back up your reading with critical thinking and research the authors of the books you read for their credibility on the subject. I would suggest staying away from Silver Ravenwolf's books. Scott Cunningham and Christopher Penczak are decent authors for the basics of Wicca and Wiccan flavored Witchcraft, if that is what you are interested in. I especially found Penczak's "Inner Temple of Witchcraft" very helpful in helping me achieve mediation more successfully and achieve certain states of mind helpful to my craft early on.
Also, bear in mind that Wicca and Witchcraft are not the same thing. Wicca is a religion, in which many use Witchcraft as a part of their practice.
Witchcraft itself is a practice that can be separate from religion if the Witch is inclined to work that way.
What is it about Witchcraft that you are interested in most? Or is it Wicca that interests you? |

Hello Lyall!
I don't know what impressed me more, your questions or your tenacity at finding the right place to ask them! Nicely done.
Read the forums here and the questions others have asked and then keep asking your own. Read. Think about the book you are reading and what it was intended to do and what the author might have wanted you to take from it.
Consider what it is about Wicca that you like. Is it Wicca that you really like or perhaps you are drawn more to the witchcraft aspect of it than the religious part. There are many, many paths and what you choose to follow today may not be the one you will stay on. That's the beauty of being so young and so completely open to the world: time. You have time to explore and learn and find what clicks with you and what rings false.
Wicca is indeed its own religion and has little to do with what you'll find here or in what is referred here as Traditional Witchcraft. I wish you good luck in your journey. Keep us posted!

Hi Lyall. Yes, I would search various sites to understand what Wicca truly is.. and not only their outer court information. True "traditional" Wicca is an oath-bound orthopraxic fertility-based witch cult that, in order to be considered a "true" Wiccan, requires initiation into a coven. Being that Wicca is so oath-bound, you will not find any inner court information out there: inner court information needs to be obtained by a REAL coven, not a coven that focuses on outer court information. A real coven is one that follows Gardner's words, although there are many divisions of Wicca traditions. Being of your age, you will not.. probably anybody who will accept you as a member of their coven. Learn about as much as possible with information out there and especially read Gardner's books.
I would suggest reading up on Traditional Witchcraft from various sites; just do a google search and you'll find many, but don't be fooled with traditional Wicca being referred to as Traditional Witchcraft. Look through these posts and look at beginner's posts. Best of luck! |
