This may be a stupid question, but...
I live in an urban area and lack a means of transportation for getting out of the city. This makes it difficult to get out into any natural areas for doing things like gathering sprowl, treading the mill, rituals, etc. We do have some good public parks, but they lack privacy and are, well, "tamed" green spaces. Of course, that's better than asphalt!
Do you have any suggestions about how one can go about working with the land smack in the middle of a city?
I used to live out in the countryside, but that was a long time ago, before I developed an interest in witchcraft. Oh, I didn't know how good I had it!

No advice but I do sympathise. I live in the country but it is tamed agricultural land. Fortunately we still have hedgerows and the garden is mostly private. There are wilder areas but they are all a car ride away and unfortunately popular with dog walkers.
Up to 5 years ago I had access to hundreds of acres of woodland adjoining the house and I miss it greatly. _________________ Amanita
My suggestion is to make more of an effort to get to the wilderness. No matter what you do grow an indoor garden, visit a city park, or day dream about a creek, it will never come close to actually setting foot in wilderness.
There are lots of ways to get involved in getting outdoors: join hiking clubs, camping groups, rafting/canooing, etc. If it is important enough to you, you won't let mundanity get in the way and you will get yourself there.
I am hoping to be inspiring rather than harsh. But its true, if its important enough to you, you will prioritize it over other things. I live in a city, and I visit the parks, I grow a garden, but nothing beats the power of the wild desert and the wild forests and wild oceans I can visit if I put my efforts in that direction.
However, one can still practice witchcraft in the city, I perhaps missed the gist of your question. It will just be different--there are spirits in the city too, just different sorts and you can still make potions and grow things inside.

Hello White Bear -- That's an excellent question. I am very fortunate to now live in a semi-rural area. When I lived in the city I had the same problem that you speak of ... I found it difficult to break through the noise and the various barriers that are so typical of cities. If I may suggest this: look for an energetic thread that connects you to the land; it might be faint, but there is continuity to be found (although it's so much easier in undeveloped places).

Hey, don't sweat it--I know where you're coming from. Having lived in different types of environments and been to the wilderness, there IS a big difference. A few months ago when my father was visiting, we did a bit of traveling, some hiking, and so on. It was wonderful. Unfortunately, it's not practical to do this on a regular basis, so I have to adapt and use what I have at hand. Thankfully, I'll be going out of state in April in order to attend my nephew's wedding. There is A LOT more wilderness in that part of the country, and I really look forward to getting out there in the mountains and the desert (in between socializing with the family).

Go and find some wasteland. This is where the land has been left to go wild again. There's usually some in every city - and the drunks are usually in the parks anyway. _________________ "History is just a myth that has been written down" Napoleon Bonaparte
