It is easy to call oneself a Witch, or Pagan, or whatever you call yourself. But who are you? What are you? Really. I am Elder RavenFire. I practice Witchcraft. No set Tradition. Just Witchcraft. I am not a group. I am my own Witch. I don't fall into Traditonal Witchcraft, nor any other path. I just follow the Lord, and Lady how I see fit. I read books, I follow what my teachers insite. One was from one of the oldest Celtic familys in Ireland. I honor her teachings very much. And thank her for what she gave me. I thank all my Celtic teachers, and Witchcraft teachers as well. I've had very advance teaching to be where I'm at today. But for what? Bacause of what I am, I fit no where. I am not Celtic. I am a Witch, but don't fit any path for my Celtic teachings. And with the way I hold myself. so I ask again, why the titles? Why work so hard to find a name? We all work for the same goal, do we not?

A word is a very powerful thing. Not everyone here would necessarily refer to themself as a Witch or Pagan, however, the core of the traditions we adhere to are the same for some of us. Now, it might be argued that there exists a great variance in tradition among those who consider themselves Traditionalists and that would be an accurate statement. However, the nature of these traditions and how they are carried offer many commonalities that allow for such broad statements to be made.

With that stated, it sounds as though there is little here that would interest you as the information contained within these forums is focused on tradition.

Titles are earned. The name of the title might change, but the hard work and dedication behind it does not. Those who follow these traditions are dedicated to the Ancestors and the preservation of the tradition and take pride in the honor of carrying that tradition forward into the next generation and being entrusted with the knowledge.

No, we do not. The idea of a commonality between all of those who follow alternative spiritual beliefs is not necessarily held by Traditionalists. It might be said that a common goal among Traditionalists might be the preservation and continuation of their tradition, but from your post it would seem that is not a goal that you would share.

If you are referring to honoring the Gods and the Ancestors, please keep in mind that some methods of veneration of the Gods by modern Pagans are sometimes (more often than naught) actually offensive. Many of the differences that are described are actually done because these actions are deemed as being a violation of proper etiquette and are considered as rude, degrading, and can illicit violent emotional and even physical reactions.

Hi Ravenfire,

I've found again that your question can be related to human nature, rather than anything specifically to do with witchcraft.

As human beings, we need titles. Take the title "Mr" - now why do we have "Mrs", "Miss", "Ms", "Dr", "Sir" - so we can differenciate what 'type' of status, be is professional, marital or gender in this case, a person is.

We also have "phychologists", "phychiatrists", "councellor" and "Hypnotists" - why not ditch these and call them all "Mind dealers or mind therapists", under the same title?

Why not abolish terms like "Footboll", "Rugby", "Cricket", "Golf" or "Hockey", and simply call them all "sport" - they're goal is all the same - to win a game, yet the method for doing so is completely different.

Giving titles and labels is simply the way people work.

Excellent insight Owl.. Human nature is indeed the underlying cause for titles. Personally titles mean little to me, but some i've found demand the respect of the titles they've earned. Within each of us is our own standards and goals. Though I do not necessarily care for a title, I respect the wishes of others who do as they have earned it. One cannot change the nature of things, only the nature of himself. Trying to inflict your ideals upon those who are not likeminded is like standing in the path of a broken dam....

Interesting that you have a problem with "titles" RavenFire, but refer to yourself as Elder RavenFire, why not just ravenfire ?

We can call ourselves anything we want, but if we don't talk the talk or walk the walk we're going to get ourselves laughed at and derided.
